Biography
Made a Recorder of the Crown Court in 1995 (reappointed in 2001). He became a High Court judge on 21 November 2002 and was appointed to the King’s Bench Division. He became a judge of the International Criminal Court in 2003. He was elected to serve as one of the 18 judges of the International Criminal Court in 2003 for a term of 9 years, and was assigned to the Trial Division. He was appointed as a Lord Justice of Appeal on 10 May 2013. He was appointed Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales on 1 January 2016. From 2017 to 2019, he was the first Investigatory Powers Commissioner and was the Vice-President of the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) in 2019.
