Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme statistics

Performance of the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme (DMPS). These statistics are now published alongside the DMPS annual review each November.

  1. 22 July 2020

     Published the response to the recent consultation about stopping publication of the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme Official Statistics.

  2. 3 July 2020

     Added a note that the consultation on the publication of Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme statistics has closed. We are analysing your feedback and the outcome will be published on this page when this work has been completed.

  3. 8 June 2020

     Added a statistical notice. This asks for views on the proposal to stop publishing the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme (DMPS) Official Statistics - reply to the proposal by 3 July 2020. The information will continue to be published in the DMPS annual review.

     Added new release of statistics 'Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme statistics for April 2014 to March 2019'.

  5. 15 August 2018

     Added new report 'Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme statistics for April 2014 to March 2018'.

  6. 11 December 2017

     Added response to consultation on change in the frequency of publication. The next publication will be in summer 2018, and will cover relevant data for the period of 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018 inclusive. After that, future publications will be published annually.

  7. 5 July 2017

     Added new report 'Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme statistics for April 2014 to March 2017' and revised data tables for April 2014 to March 2017. Also added a notice asking for comments on changing the frequency of Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme statistics publications.

Response to July 2017 consulation about frequency of publication

Details

The Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme (DMPS) statistics are now (from November 2020) published with the DMPS annual review.

These official statistics record the number of claims received from when the scheme started in April 2014, broken down by:

• month of claim
• status of claim
• age
• gender
• diagnosis date of the applicant

They also include total and average payments made. The information is also published in spreadsheet format.

The Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme (DMPS) was launched throughout the UK on 6 April 2014. It provides payments to eligible sufferers of diffuse mesothelioma, or their eligible dependants, who were negligently exposed to asbestos during a period of employment, but who are unable to take legal action to seek financial redress via the civil courts.
