Depending on your circumstances, you’ll receive either a Total Reward Statement (TRS) or an Annual Benefit Statement (ABS) each year.

If you receive a TRS, this includes an ABS which you can find by selecting the ‘NHS Pension’ tab.

To find out more about Total Reward Statements, Annual Benefit Statements and which one you'll receive, visit What type of statement you’ll get.

Statements are updated annually. The latest update took place in August 2026.

We recommend saving a copy of your statement for your own records.

If you are affected by McCloud, your ABS will look different. For more information on these changes, visit the ‘ABS for McCloud affected members’ page.

If your employer uses Electronic Staff Record (ESR)

You can use this to access your statement.

Log in to TRS using ESR

What ESR is

The Electronic Staff Record (ESR) is an integrated HR and payroll system for NHS organisations in England and Wales.

ESR allows NHS employees to view and maintain their personal information and develop their professional knowledge.

If you receive your payslips via ESR, then you should also be able to access your Total Reward Statement, if available, via ESR. Not all NHS employers offer access to ESR, ask your employer if you would like more information.

You can get help with accessing your statement via ESR or contact your local ESR administrator for help.

Information for non-ESR users (previous access via GOV.UK Verify)

If you do not have access to ESR and are actively contributing to the NHS Pension Scheme, you should have received a letter to provide you with your registration information for our new digital platform, My NHS Pension.

If you've accessed your statement in the last 12 months via GOV.UK Verify you should have already received a letter asking you to register for My NHS Pension. GOV.UK Verify closed on 30 March 2023.

Future pension projection

We are pleased to share that this year’s updates introduce future pension projections.

Note that not all members will receive a projection. This new feature is strictly limited to members who are active in the 2015 Scheme and under their normal pension age. This addition will help these specific eligible members better visualise their long-term retirement planning.

Understanding your Future pension projection

There are 2 parts to how your pension figures work, and they're calculated differently.

For your legacy benefits (the older part of your pension, built up before you moved to the 2015 Scheme), the figure shown is simply what you've earned so far. It's not trying to guess what you'll have by the time you retire, it's a snapshot of today.

For your 2015 Scheme benefits, the figure is a projection. It estimates what your pension will be worth by the time you reach your normal pension age, based on the assumption that your pay stays exactly the same as it is now, with no rises or drops.

There's also an assumption built into that 2015 projection about revaluation, which is the annual adjustment applied to your pension to help it keep pace with the cost of living. The projection assumes this will be 1.5% each year, and that's factored in right up until you reach your normal pension age.

So, in short, your legacy pension figure is "what you've got now", while your 2015 pension figure is "what you're on track for at retirement", based on your current pay staying the same and a 1.5% yearly increase being applied throughout.

Further information on accessing your statements

If you have taken retirement benefits - including partial retirement - you will not receive an automated Annual Benefit Statement. If you require an estimate for any unclaimed pension, you should complete the SIA estimate request form (PDF: 315KB) and send it to [email protected].

Alternatively, you can complete the form and post it to:

Your employer will let you know when a new statement becomes available.
