Architecture is for everyone. Whether you're a developer, service designer, policymaker or architect by profession, the decisions you make help shape how public services work. By bringing people together across disciplines, we can share expertise, challenge assumptions and build the foundations for better, more joined-up public services.
Architects came together for our first ‘Architects Assemble’, to create firmer foundations for technology and data, and ultimately better outcomes for communities.
This blog shares insights on how technical architecture is used across local government, focusing on common patterns and challenges rather than individual organisation. It explores how shared technical layers can support collaboration, reduce duplication, and create more consistent foundations for digital services.
We’ve introduced the Architecture Decision Record (ADR) framework to help teams across government make and record technology decisions consistently.
