Terms of website use

These terms explain the rules for using our website. By using our website, you confirm that you accept these terms and agree to comply with them. If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use our website.

We are Great Britain’s national equality body, so our website is for people living in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).

Content available on, or through, our website may not be available or appropriate for use in other locations. You should check local laws and make sure you use our website appropriately in other locations.

Our website is available free of charge but we:

  • do not guarantee that our website, or content, will always be available or be uninterrupted
  • may update, change or remove content at any time without letting you know first
  • may have to suspend, withdraw or restrict availability – we will always try to give reasonable notice where we can
  • may change these terms

You agree to:

Re-use of our information

We own most of the content on our website. Our website content is available under the Open Government Licence (OGL) v3.0, except where otherwise stated.  If any content is owned by others, we will usually credit the author or copyright holder.

We encourage the reuse of our information but you must not change the content and you must include the attribution ‘Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), [name and date of publication], licensed under the Open Government Licence’.

If you would like to reuse our materials but the proposed reuse would contravene any of the conditions of the OGL, you should contact us, unless an exemption applies.

If you want to use our content for your own personal use, you do not need to let us know how you are reusing it.

Personal use means you may access, download and print content from our website for your own personal, non-commercial use. You cannot modify the content.

You can also reuse our content in its original and unmodified form as part of a training course or in lesson plans. Any use of our website or our content other than for personal use is subject to the terms of any applicable license, including the OGL.

This includes any:

  • publications
  • reproductions
  • distribution
  • commercial use

If no license applies then our prior written permission is required.

Images are not available for reuse under the OGL because in most cases a third party holds copyright. Use of any EHRC logos or branding without our consent is also not allowed. We do not grant anyone any rights to reuse images or logos. Third-party content is also not available under the OGL.

Websites and applications that use our content in their feeds are not ours and they might use versions of our content that have been edited and stored for later use (‘cached’). Go to our website directly for the most up to date content.

The EHRC’s intellectual property rights, including copyright in its materials, are unaffected by our voluntary application of the OGL. These rights still belong to the EHRC.

If you want to use our information in any other way, contact us by completing the application form, which is available to download on this page, and return it to us by emailing our correspondence team.

Applications can also be made in writing to:
