Summary

Job Purpose: The GP Surgery Receptionist plays a key role in delivering efficient and friendly front-line support to patients and healthcare professionals. They manage appointments, handle inquiries, and provide administrative support to ensure smooth operations within the surgery. Key Responsibilities: Patient Interaction: Greet and assist patients both in person and on the phone. Schedule appointments with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Handle patient queries, complaints, and requests in a professional manner. Inform patients about surgery policies, procedures, and services. Administrative Duties: Maintain and update patient records using the surgerys clinical system. Process prescription requests, referrals, and medical reports. Assist with registration of new patients, ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed if required. Collect and process payments for non-NHS services. Communication: Communicate effectively with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare staff to coordinate patient care. Ensure messages are relayed promptly and accurately to the relevant healthcare professionals. Liaise with external health providers, such as hospitals, pharmacies, and specialists. Confidentiality and Compliance: Ensure all patient information is handled with utmost confidentiality and complies with data protection regulations (GDPR). Adhere to the surgerys policies on patient confidentiality, data security, and safeguarding. Operational Support: Manage waiting room areas, ensuring patients are seen in an orderly and timely manner. Assist in the coordination of home visits for patients unable to attend the surgery. (if needed) Key Skills & Competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask and work under pressure Excellent organisational skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical systems (training provided if necessary) Good time management and problem-solving abilities A calm and professional attitude, especially in stressful situations Continue to keep up with practice training and policy modules.
