We are seeking a senior Construction Director to provide strategic leadership across a large, multi-site government construction programme in the UK.

This is a high-impact leadership role, responsible for overseeing complex construction activity across multiple workstreams and project values.

We are looking for a proven construction leader from a Tier 1 background who can drive safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery, while supporting the Head of Projects in setting standards, leading teams and ensuring projects are delivered in a structured and strategic way.

Job Description

The Construction Director will drive high-value, complex and multi-project programmes through the full project lifecycle, from early scoping to final handover.

As a member of the leadership team, you will support project teams, collaborate with other departments, and ensure all construction activity is aligned with wider organisational objectives and performance targets.

The role will oversee delivery across three key divisions:

Capex Projects - project values up to £1 million

Minor Works - lower-value projects with fast turnaround

Construction Projects - full strip-out and rebuild programmes (flooring, layouts, full refurbishment), typically valued between £5 million – £20 million

Key Responsibilities

Support the Head of Projects in leading large-scale construction projects from inception through to handover

Oversee multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery is safe, on time and within budget

Provide senior leadership to project teams and project managers across all construction divisions

Act as the primary link between site-based teams and senior leadership

Set, maintain and embed project standards, processes and best practice

Manage budgets, risks, timelines and resources across assigned projects

Ensure compliance with health, safety and quality standards at all times

Track progress, report performance, and maintain accurate project data and systems

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

Proven experience as a Construction Director or equivalent within a Tier 1 construction environment

Extensive senior management experience delivering multi-million-pound construction or infrastructure projects

Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage risk, performance and profitability

Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and crisis management capabilities

In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, regulations and building standards

Professional chartership required (e.g. CIOB, RICS, ICE)

Ability to attain BPSS clearance, with SC clearance required at a later stage

Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across UK sites as required
