annual population survey (Dec 2004 to Mar 2026)
A residence based labour market survey encompassing population, economic activity (employment and unemployment), economic inactivity and qualifications. These are broken down where possible by gender, age, ethnicity, industry and occupation. Available at Local Authority level and above. Updated quarterly.
Claimant count by sex and age (Jan 1986 to Jun 2026)
The Claimant Count - the stock of Universal Credit and Job Seekers Allowance claimants broken down by sex, age and type of benefit being claimed. Claimant count proportions are available but not when the figures are not broken down by age.
Population estimates - local authority based by single year of age (1991 to 2025)
The midyear (30 June) estimates of population are based on results from the latest Census of Population with allowance for under-enumeration. Available at Local Authority level and above.
Business Register and Employment Survey : open access (2015 to 2024)
An employer survey of the number of jobs held by employees broken down by full/part-time and detailed industry (5 digit SIC2007). The survey records a job at the location of an employees workplace. Available from country down to lower level super output area and Scottish datazone.
UK Business Counts - enterprises by industry and employment size band (2010 to 2025)
An extract compiled from the Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) recording the number of Enterprises that were live at a reference date in March, broken down by employment size band, detailed industry (5 digit SIC2007) and legal status. An Enterprise is the smallest combination of legal units which has a certain degree of autonomy within an Enterprise Group. Available from country down to mid layer super output area and Scottish intermediate zones.
