Skimming
Skimming is reading a text quickly to get a general idea of meaning.
Slips
Slips are mistakes caused by temporary factors such as a learner being tired, nervous, excited or distracted.
Socio-cultural context
Socio-cultural context refers to the idea that language, rather than existing in isolation, is closely linked to the culture and society in which it is used.
Sociocultural awareness
Sociocultural awareness means awareness of the societies and cultures of the target language, and therefore of the contexts the language is used in.
Stative verb
Stative verbs are verbs that describe a state.
Stress
Stress is emphasis given to certain syllables in words.
Stress pattern
The stress pattern of a word is the way all the syllables are stressed in it.
Stress timed
A stress-timed language is a language where the stressed syllables are said at approximately regular intervals, and unstressed syllables shorten to fit this rhythm.
