NPSA have created tailored guidance for public sector staff in roles that require them to routinely enter residential properties or have access to domestic waste. This guidance aims to increase staff awareness of indicators of potentially dangerous situations involving hazardous chemicals and other suspicious activity. This will provide staff with critical information needed to keep themselves safe while on duty, and it will enable them to report any concerns they have following the appropriate protocol.

This guidance is aimed at staff who routinely enter residential properties or have access to domestic waste as part of their role. This may include, but is not limited to, housing officers, care workers, environmental health officers, refuse collectors, or estate caretakers.

This guidance is only available to local authority staff, community nurses (either NHS or Local Authority staff) and GPs, and Housing Associations, and can be requested by completing the Recognising the Misuse of Household Chemicals Guidance Request Form.
