Field IT

SEIS-UK has an array of hardware and software to help with instrument configuration, installation, servicing, data extraction and data archiving. Precisely what a given project will require depends on the equipment borrowed, as well as the number of deployment teams and the nature of the deployment area. This page provides a brief summary of available equipment and its uses. Contact us to discuss your requirements in greater detail.

Laptops and Netbooks

SEIS-UK has a large number of laptops which are shipped with the seismic equipment. Both standard laptops and Panasonic Toughbooks, which have limited weatherproofing, are available. The majority of both laptops are dual boot Windows/Linux machines.

Laptops are provided to help with the pre-deployment setup of instruments, as well as the storage of field data. Communication with instrumentation in the field is normally with netbooks. A SEIS-UK Windows partition would normally have, in addition to the normal Windows programs, Guralp's Scream software, GCFinfo software and various seismic documentation. A linux distribution will come with Scream, Passcal, PQLII and conversion tools.
